Château Boyd-Cantenac is a winery located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France on the left bank of the Garonne River. Its famous for its Bordeaux wine. The estate began on August 11th, 1754 when the property was purchased by “Messire Jacques Boyd”. On August 28th, 1806 the château changed hands and John Lewis-Brown, who was related to the Boyd family by marriage, became adjudicator to the estate (Cocks, 2004). There was a falling out between Boyd and his son-in-law which divided the estate into Boyd-Cantenac and Cantenac-Brown. This took place after the 1855 Grand Cru Classifications ranked Château Boyd-Cantenac as a third growth winery, which allowed Cantenac-Brown to claim a third growth ranking as well (Coates, 2004). Château Boyd-Cantenac stayed in Boyd’s family ownership till 1932 when the Guillemet family purchased the property and has been in their possession since. The Guillemet family had also acquired the 4th growth Château Pouget in Margaux (Cocks, 2004). Château Pouget is often referred to as the “forceful brother” of Château Boyd-Cantenac (Johnson, 2001). Château Boyd-Cantenac also produces a second wine called “Jacques Boyd”. This wine is from the younger vines on the property which creates a lighter, fruiter wine then the Château Boyd-Cantenac. Because of this, it is made to be enjoyed three to six years after the harvest versus the minimum five years you should wait after the harvest for the first Château Boyd-Cantenac wine. The average age of their vines is 38 years and 60% of their grape varietals are Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% are Merlot, 8% are Cabernet Franc, and 7% are Petit Verdot (www.boyd-cantenac.fr.).

Etykieta raz jeszcze i info (pralinka) z Decantera.

Château Boyd-Cantenac was founded by an Irishman, Jacques Boyd, in the mid-1700s (before that the vines had been looked after by the local Benedictine Priory). By the 1800s, the estate had passed to family member John Lewis Brown, a Scotsman, and later still was divided into two properties: Cantenac-Brown, which today includes an eye-catching brick-built château, and the château-less Boyd-Cantenac. The latter passed first to the Ginestet family (then owners of Château Margaux) and second, in 1932, to the Guillemets who already owned Château Pouget. For many decades the wines of Pouget and Body-Cantenac were produced together in the same winery, but in early 1980s the production of Boyd-Cantenac became a distinct undertaking with beneficial consequences.
