Tak Maria (Ignacia Eyzaguirre-Echenique) to niebywała osoba, to tak jak poznałem Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzague (równie trudne nazwisko), to miła okoliczność tycvh naszych winnych spotkań. Dla takiej osoby warto się przepychać przy stolikach, ale lepiej zatrzymać się, zjeść razem z nią bagietkę... nie samym wszak winem żyje człowiek. Krótka historia rodu:A tradition of winemaking dating back to the eighteenth century stands behind the wines of Encierra. The Eyzaguirre-Echenique family was among the pioneers of winemaking in Chile. The legacy of winemaking for this family began in 1765 when Miguel Echenique Tagle and his son Gabriel planted the first varieties brought from France to the Colchagua region. In 1947, Fernando Echenique Zegers, founder of Viña Cañetenes de Puquillay, took the family?s tradition of winemaking a step further. Fernando invested in state-of-the-art technology and constructed a winery to manufacture and cellar the musts that proceeded from the new plantations. In 1970 the Eyzaguirre Echenique family took over Fernando?s estate and introduced Viña Los Vascos. Jorge Eyzaguirre Correa and his wife Maria Ignacia Echenique, the new proprietors of the vineyard believed that the future of the Chilean wine industry would lie within exports and initiated an aggressive commercial endeavor at international level. Jorge and Maria initiated an aggressive commercial endeavor at international level by actively participating in international market places and tasting exhibitions. Simultaneously, they incorporated state-of-the-art technology, introduced new grape varieties, and increased the cultivated surface to 350 hectares. Viña Los Vascos positioned itself in the international marketplace as an emerging family vineyard that produced quality wines. In 1988 the Eyzaguirre Echenique family established a Joint Venture with the renowned French wine growing enterprise Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafitte). In 1996, the Eyzaguirre Echenique family sold its participation in Viña Los Vascos to Viña Santa Rita but kept property over the main house and part of the estate, preserving one hundred privileged hectares planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carmenère, Syrah and some Petit Verdot. As a result a new wine growing project had emerged under the name of Viña San Diego de Puquillay. The Eyzaguirre-Echenique family and their team of experts believe that the key to quality wine production lies in the soil. For this reason they are committed to nurturing their land with state of the art technology and pursuing varietals that have maximum potential. In 2000, the family?s vision for Viña San Diego de Puquillay became reality as they released their first vintage of Encierra ?Vineyard Reserve? Encierra is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenère, Merlot, and Petit verdot.The grapes are picked by hand separetly one variety from the others and fermented also separetly.Encierra proyect is owned by Jorge, Juan Carlos and Maria Ignacia Eyzaguirre Echenique,and their mother Maria Ignacia Echenique. Maria Ignacia Eyzaguirre i lived her first four years on the family's vineyard estate in Peralillo, Colchagua - in the heart of Chile's wine country. The property was managed by Maria Ignacia's father and, while growing up, Maria Ignacia would accompany him on his walks through the vineyards and learn the property's secrets. It was no surprise to her family, that as she grew up, she studied enology and viticulture.Soon after her father sold her family's ownership interest in Los Vascos, she decided to continue with a special project her father had started and produce high quality wines from the family estate, naming it Encierra.She loves making her wines and sharing them with friends and customers around the world. Not only is she the winemaker for Encierra, she is also responsible for selling her wines throughout Chile as well as the rest of the world. Currently her wine is available in Netherlands, U.S.A, Canada, Denmark , UK, Germany, and BrasilHer main objective is to continuously strive for perfection and demonstrate that her vineyard she can produce one of the most rich and elegant wines in Chile. This because of it´s terroir, the slate in it´s soils are very evoluted, added to the coast influence in the climate gives an enormous richness and complexity to Encierra wines.
