W odró¿nieniu od Batuty, Robustus nie budzi³ we mnie ¿adnych w±tplwo¶ci. Mimo odrobiny s³odyczy i nie najwy¿szej kwasowo¶ci (niektórzy mogliby narzekaæ na jej brak) wino cechowa³ ¶wietny faktor pijalno¶ci, wchodzi³o jak woda i mo¿naby siê pokusiæ nawet o piêkne ¶wiadectwo mineralnego, ³upkowego terroir, gdyby nie podobieñstwo wg mnie do Brunello, a nawet Rosso Capanny. Chodzi o styl wina nie intensywno¶æ wra¿eñ. Wina ¶wietne do steka, którym siê zajada³em. W optymalnej formie, bliskie idea³u, choæ wra¿enie zera nadwagi i doskona³o¶ci drobnego i przyjemnego garbnika nie do zapomnienia. To by³o wg mnie najlepsze wino tego wieczoru, choæ Redoma 2005 po kwasowej stronie mocy i ¶wie¿o¶ci mog³aby stawaæ z nim w szranki. To wino pokaza³o, ¿e s³odycz, a w zasadzie jej odrobina, nie musi muliæ. ¯e dojrza³o¶æ gron to nie przejrza³o¶æ. ¯e jak siê okaza³o potem du¿e beki to jest to! No chyba, ¿e za 20 lat Batuta 2004 poka¿e klasê? Zmiêkczyæ taniny na pewno siê uda³o przez te cztery latka (chyba o powolne utlenienie chodzi i efekt podobny jak w tradycyjnym Brunello?). Odmiany ze strony producenta. Tinta Roriz to Tempranillo, a ciemna Tinta Amarela to Trincadeira, co pachnie kwiatami, je¿ynami i zio³ami. Dobrze, ¿e Luis wzi±³ w³a¶nie to wino na wieczorn± biesiadê, a nie Batutê, ale widaæ, ¿e jego kolega Nick go zaskoczy³ i wysz³o jak wysz³o, czyli mogli¶my porównaæ dwie szko³y, obydwie butelki wysz³y spod rêki Luisa.


ROBUSTUS 2004 from Niepoort
The name Robustus pays tribute to the first wine that Dirk Niepoort made in 1990 with the same name and which was never released. The inspiration behind Robustus 2004 is essentially based on great traditional Italian wines where an extended maturation in old wood is used to soften the tannins. The idea was to make a full bodied wine, which portrays well the Douro and its vineyards, of great structure, with the presence of tannins and acidity giving it vigour as well as many years of life in bottle. It’s ageing in vats for 4 years, allows a powerful wine to develop, based on aromatic complexity, potent but well integrated tannins derived from the length of time ageing and its great acidity and ageing capacity.
VINIFICATION
2004 was an extremely dry year which conditioned from an early stage the size of the berry, however the rain which fell in the middle of August permitted a very balanced maturity, with ripe tannins without excesses in sugar levels of the musts principally from higher altitude and less exposed vineyards. In fact the vinificationwas not carried outwith Robustus inmind,and in this batch we can find wines fermented with extended maceration as well as a small percentage made in lagar. It was after 18 months of barrel ageing that 2 lots of wine were chosen for there acidity and tannin structure for a more prolonged ageing in old 1500Lwooden vats.
TASTING NOTES
In spite of the time spent ageing the Robustus 2004 exhibits a ruby colour with very little development, a distinct aroma of great intensity and complexity, where notes of coffee, and cigar box are confused with those of dark and red fruits and with the intense notes of spices (black pepper, cloves).We even find elegant balsamic and resinous notes and earthy aromas. The palate has great amplitude with the presence of fruit and minerality, the wine imposes itself on tasting more by its freshness than by the weight of its structure which exhibits tannin in abundance but all very well integrated. All coming together with a very long and persistant finish, its without doubt a wine to follow over the next few decades. @Atlantika

Co¶ mi siê Robustus z Omletem wymiesza³, niez³e jaja;-) Kwas by³. W Robustusie. No bo przecie¿ nie w Omlecie. Piêkny. Sorry. Wino oceni³em na (pó³)trze¼wo na 7 jednak. 8 to jaka¶ projekcja i wyobra¿enie. Wspomnienie udanego pijañstwa. Nie zmienia to faktu, ¿e tego wieczora Omlet, Robustus i Redoma b³yszcza³y. S³abiej Batuta i Sacra Ribeira (nowy projekt), choæ Batuta spodoba³aby sie likworowcom i czekoladowcom (du¿o dobre nutelli;-) za¶ Ribeira Sacra urzeka³a pijalno¶ci± mimo lekko¶ci/mia³ko¶ci (niepotrzebne skre¶liæ). Douro jest piêkne, Porto te¿.
